Another reason (and ... Another reason (and I am guilty of this too, but I am trying to learn my options), is that we seem to think in terms of "finding a job" instead of creating a job. It occurred to me a few months ago that the idea of finding an employer to give me a job has become a? lifestyle. It seems like a few generations ago it would not have been a bid deal for someone to just open up shop and go in business for oneself, but now it seems like leap into the unknown.

That isn't the problem.While there are jobs that used to require only bachelors that now require graduate? degrees,if someone assumed that their dream job requires only a bachelor, it is because they didn't research their career, not because of a change in the economy.The issue with graduate degrees are a)are design to deepen an understanding in an area,not to prepare for a career and b)there is an oversupply of Graduates(I am thinking humanities,but it appears to be true for some sciences too).

In America, people who go to grad school and even who get a master's degree or a doctorate degree can't seem to get a decent job. Now that a master's is required for so many jobs where a bachelor's used to suffice, and before that high? school graduation used to be enough - WHERE DOES IT END? Everyone has to get a PhD to work at BK?

@DynamoK92 Think of ... @DynamoK92 Think of all the amazing properties some animals/plants/microbes have on the planet, you can do something with that! like spider silk, or fish containing antifreez proteins, flurescent cats? (useless but fun), and even like in on of the simpsons episodes, Tomaco (probably unethical - but you can do it!) You could engineer edible plants so they contain more nutrients. Genetic counseling thats something else you can do. Clinical biochemist thats something else (pays well too).

But if your talking about biochemistry, molecular biology? or something close to that like microbiology you can do a lot of things for one you can be hired at all the medical biotechs (Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squib), the more technical companies that deal in lab products (I consider it boring but hey my opinion), then there are companies that deal in industrial biotechnologies like 4th generation biofuels (Exxon, Chevron).
